Prince Albert taxi driver victim of bear spray attack

Feb 27, 2025 | 1:55 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service is investigating after a taxi driver was assaulted with bear spray.

The incident happened on Wednesday at approximately 12:10 p.m. when police were called to a business in the 2800 block of Sixth Ave. E. for a weapons complaint involving bear spray.

Arriving officers located a cab driver victim suffering from the effects of bear spray and learned he picked up an unknown male in the 500 block of 27th Street East, who allegedly threatened the driver with bear spray for a ride.

The victim then drove the suspect to a business in the 2800 block of 6th Avenue East and upon arrival, the suspect got out of the cab and sprayed the victim with bear spray.

Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information is asked to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

This is the latest bear spray incident in the province after two people were involved in separate incidents on transit busses in Saskatoon on Tuesday, and a man was sprayed during a violent robbery in Saskatoon on Feb. 20. That followed 10 separate incidents involving bear spray over the Family Day Long Weekend.

According to the province, police have responded to over 3,000 bear spray incidents over the last five years. The Government of Saskatchewan created new rules in March to get tough on those who abuse bear spray in public.
