Armed robber returns to scene of the crime, and receives four year sentence

Feb 27, 2025 | 5:00 PM

A man who robbed two businesses in less than an hour and was arrested after returning to the scene of the crime, has now received a four year prison sentence.

Blake Hunt appeared on Monday at Prince Albert Provincial Court. With credit for pre-sentence custody, he has about three years and six months left to serve.

The case dates back to Sept. 28, 2024.

Shorty after 10:30p.m., Hunt walked into a business in the 400 Block of 15 Street East. While holding a machete, he demanded cash from the till and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured.

An hour later, he tried to rob a second business in the 200 Block of 15th Street West. In that incident, two men and a woman went inside the business with machetes and knives to rob it, injuring one of the staff members.

They fled before police arrived but, an hour after that at 12:30 a.m. the morning of September 29, the two men returned to the business. Officers responded and made the arrest.

On Jan. 20, guilty pleas were entered to attempted robbery and taking money from a business. Hunt also admitted to breaching his previous release conditions.

The two people with Hunt during the second robbery were never caught.

A recommendation made by the defence, and accepted by the judge, may allow Hunt to serve the remainder of his sentence in a healing lodge. The final decision however is in the hands of the Correctional Service of Canada.

Following his release from custody, Hunt will be prohibited for a period of ten years from owning or possessing any firearms or explosives.
