CPKC responding to 18-rail car derailment near Moose Jaw

Railway crews are responding to the scene of a train derailment 25 km west of Moose Jaw.

This happened shortly after midnight on Tuesday in the RM of Caron.

Around 18 intermodal rail cars were involved and the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway company is reporting no injuries.

The train was carrying loaded shipping containers, one of the containers was carrying batteries. No other dangerous goods were involved.

CPKC said there are no leaks of products and no threats to public safety.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

Second derailment in a week

Earlier this week, there was another train derailment along Highway 1 near Webb.

This happened on Feb. 20 just north east of Gull Lake. Three rail cars were involved.

CPKC said the cars derailed but remained upright, the rail cars were carrying finished vehicles.

The incident didn’t block traffic.
