The Prince Albert Predators took home a lot of hardware from the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Awards earlier this week.

The banquet was held on Saturday and saw the Predators sweep the Junior Division awards with players winning the 2024 Offensive, Defensive, and MVP honours.

Prince Albert netminder Mason Hawkes took home the MVP award with his monster of a season. The backbone of the team, he finished the year with a perfect 14-0 (W-L) record posting a 3.71 GAA and a .871 SV%. His performance helped lead the Predators to a MacDonald Cup berth which they also ended up winning, with Hawkes registering a perfect 4-0 record at the tournament with a 5.75 GAA and .866 SV%.

Rightfully claiming the Most Outstanding Offensive Player award was Brayden Rieger who scored over 100 combined points this season in just 18 games. In the 12-game regular season, Rieger managed a whopping 45 goals and 41 assists for 86 points, while in two games in the playoffs he added another four goals and eight assists for 12 more points to finish the PGLL year with a combined 49 goals and assists totaling 98 points. The University of Mount Olive commit wasn’t done there, collecting another 32 points (19G, 13A) in six games at the MacDonald Cup and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Rieger was also awarded the Russell Slobodian Major Male Athlete of the Year.

Last but not least, Predators captain Davin Ikert was awarded the Most Outstanding Defensive Player. The lockdown defender was dubbed as the ‘loose ball hawk’ following the season and helped out on the offensive end too, scoring two assists in nine games over the PGLL season. His offensive skills were more present at the MacDonald Cup, scoring two goals and assists in six games and was named a First-Team All-Star.

Additionally, a few more Prince Albert lacrosse athletes were recognized throughout the night.

Hawkes, Rieger, Ikert, Matthew Cudmore, and Talon Sandry were named as PGLL Jr. All-Stars, while Sr. Outlaw Ethan Kennedy was the lone Prince Albert representative for the Sr. All-Star team. Kennedy led the Outlaws in scoring during the Sr. season, scoring 22 goals and nine assists in seven appearances. P.A. finished the season fourth out of five teams in with a 2-6-0 (W-L-T) record in 2024.

A trio of local youth players also took home some hardware from the awards. Ava Gawryluik was named the U13 Team Sask Female Box Lacrosse Most Improved Player, Bentley Broome was awarded the U13 Team Sask Male Box Lacrosse Most Improved Player, and Chase Lehner took home the U17 Team Sask Co-Ed Field Lacrosse Most Improved Player.
