Success for local figure skaters in recent competitions

The Carrot River and Churchill Regional Figure Skating Competition was held at the Art Hauser Centre on the weekend and featured several skaters from area clubs. The Skate Canada Star program assesses the athletes in three area: skills, freeskate and dance.

A total of 285 ribbons were presented to skaters in level Star 1-3 and 6 medals at Star 4 level.

Some of the local regional awards included:

  • Junior Dance Award: Hallie Pomedli – Spiritwood Skating Club
  • Junior Artistic Award: Nmerichukwu (Abby) Ndubuka – Prince Albert Skating Club
  • Senior Dance Award: Ava Beuker – Spiritwood Skating Club
  • Senior Artistic Award: Emeri Simonar – Spiritwood Skating Club
  • Highest Points Award Region 12: Prince Albert Skating Club
  • Highest Points Award Region 11: Tisdale Skate Club

Also this past week, over 270 pre-novice and novice skaters competed at the 2025 Skate Canada Trophy in Edmonton. The new national event combines the prior Novice Canadian Championships and Skate Canada Challenge – Pre-Novice, featuring skaters in the men’s women’s pairs, and ice dance disciplines. The competition showcased talent from across Canada including Prince Albert’s Stefan Lotz. He and his skating partner Abigal Haas from Regina finished fifth in the Pre-Novice Pairs competition.
