Custom Security and Investigation: Reducing crime and growing careers

Jan 31, 2025 | 1:06 PM

It’s no secret that Prince Albert struggles with crime and safety. In 2024, there were more than 3,400 incidents of property crime including break and enter, and willful damage. There were also more than 1,600 incidents of violent crimes like assaults and uttering threats.

That’s why several businesses and property owners are turning to professional security teams that can help prevent crimes, minimize loss due to theft and damage and offer personal safety and security.

Custom Security and Investigation has been operating in Prince Albert for more than three decades. They custom design security and safety programs for various needs including industrial sites, concerts or sporting events, businesses and personal property.

“Our security staff have training in First Aid, CPR and security procedures and basic self-defense. Many also have A.E.D. training and restraint training,” said Victor Timm, Chief Administrative Officer.

Whether you’re a homeowner who needs someone to collect the mail while you’re away or a business that wants gates checked with consistent patrols, Custom Security and Investigation offers security with a difference.

“We are professionally trained. Our security guards are in uniform and carry their license at all times. We’re out 24/7 with our vehicles doing checks, so, often we come across incidents first and are the ones to call police,” said Timm. “If an alarm goes off at your home or business, we can check it for you, rather than you having to get up immediately or wait for police.”

Among other services offered, Custom Security and Investigation has both Notary Public’s and Commissioners of Oath. They can provide process server needs or act as an anonymous shopper to test your staff’s customer service levels. They’ll even investigate spousal infidelity cases. Consultations are free and confidential.

Timm said, no matter what the service, it’s all about providing clients peace of mind.

HIRING

As the demand for security officers grows, Custom Security and Investigation is actively recruiting for various positions including loss prevention and seasonal bylaw enforcement officers in full-time, part-time and casual positions. He said one of the biggest draws to the career is the flexibility.

“Our services are needed around the clock, so if you prefer to work nights or weekends or part-time, there is likely a security role that fits your schedule and that can be great for students, parents or individuals with multiple jobs. Events like concerts require temporary staff which is great if you don’t want a long-term commitment.”

Employees earn a competitive salary – above minimum wage – and Timm said they ‘have benefits better than the provincial government.’ There is also opportunity for growth within the company. Security officers can advance to patrol supervisors and other managerial roles. The experience can also assist in other career paths towards policing or cybersecurity.

“Why should someone work for us? Because we’re the best,” Timm said.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and complete a 40-hour training course required by the Ministry of Justice. Following an employment interview, the only other requirement is a criminal record check.

The company prides itself on its diverse workforce and Timm encourages applicants who wants a career that offers stability, growth opportunities and the chance to make a meaningful difference by helping to keep the community safe.
