Possible resolution discussions for Prince Albert murder case

Jan 29, 2025 | 2:00 PM

A high-profile murder case in Prince Albert has received a nearly month-long adjournment and according to discussion heard in court on Wednesday, that may be due to some ongoing resolution discussions.

Everett Constant is alleged to have killed his 51-year-old mother. For the purpose of Wednesday’s hearing at provincial court, his attendance was waived and all his matters were adjourned to Feb. 24.

His lawyer Garth Bendig noted the need to have discussions with the Crown but when pressed by Judge Daunt to get things moving along, he added that at the very least he should be in a position to set dates for a preliminary inquiry hearing.

Judge Daunt had noted the case dates back to May of last year.

On the day of the incident, Prince Albert police attended to a residence in the Unit Block of 28th St. W. for a family dispute with violence. Beverly Constant was pronounced deceased at the scene and Everett was arrested soon after and has been in custody ever since.

In the days that followed, police confirmed Everett was first picked up on May 3 and taken to Victoria Hospital for a medical matter.

After being cleared medically, he was arrested and held overnight in PAPS cells and then released the following morning at 10 a.m. and given a court appearance date for the end of the month on assault charges. This had to do with a hospital staff member.

Sources close to the situation told paNOW that Constant had long struggled with mental health-related issues and had been seeking help with no success.

As they have on all previous court hearing dates, multiple family members were once again present on Wednesday.
