Prince Albert robbery case proceeds to trial

Jan 10, 2025 | 1:28 PM

Almost 11 months after a robbery incident at a Prince Albert shopping centre, not guilty pleas have been entered in the case.

Cashton Bear-Paquette appeared by phone from B.C., when his matter was discussed Thursday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court. Daniel English was represented in court by his legal aid lawyer.

The case dates back to Feb. 21, 2024, when four people were seen demanding items from two other people in a parking lot of Carlton Court Plaza.

When police arrived and moved to apprehend one of the suspects, the other three fled on foot.

Another suspect was arrested soon after, and the others were found thanks to help from the Canine Unit. Later, officers found a firearm used in the attempted robbery as well as a knife.

At the time of the offense, both English and Bear-Paquette were 18-years-old.

A 17-year-old was also arrested and similarily charged with robbery, as well as carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon. The charge was later stayed by the Crown.

When both Bear-Paquette and English return to court on Jan. 16, trial dates are expected to be set.
