If you thought Thursday night was cold, Friday will be even colder with temperatures predicted to drop to –38 this evening.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the City of Prince Albert, the Battlefords and Lloydminster, but temperatures will be cold across the province.

“A period of very cold wind chills is expected,” reads the cold warning for Friday morning. While thermometres will read –30, the wind is going to make that feel like –40.

The arctic air is expected to last until Saturday and moderate to –18 during the day on Sunday.

Saturday, people can expect the temperature to only reach as high as –27.

Longer term, temperatures in Prince Albert will go up to –7 on Thursday.

Extreme cold leads to big increases in the risk of frostbite. As always, the best idea is to dress warmly, in layers that you can remove if you get too warm.

The outer layer should be wind resistant.

It only takes minutes for frostbite to develop, and it is too cold for pets to be outside.

Outdoor workers need regular warm up breaks.

Multiple locations in Prince Albert offer warm up services to those who need them.
