Volunteers needed in search for man missing

Jan 2, 2025 | 3:07 PM

A search for a man last seen on Christmas Eve in Sturgeon Lake is getting underway as the weather turns colder.

Orlando Okemaysim is from Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation and has not been seen for the last eight days. While he is known to come and go from places, he is very good about contacting family by phone or by message.

Friends and family have been looking for Okemaysim but the search is now expanding under the guidance of Prince Albert Grand Council’s search team.

Volunteers with snowmobiles, atvs or horses are asked to check-in at the Sturgeon Lake Band Office boardroom command posts.

All search efforts need to be co-ordinated and people should not head out on their own.

Food for the searchers is being organized but donations of sandwich meats, bread, coffee, sugar, creamer, bottled water, paper plates/bowls/cutlery are needed and can be dropped off at the homes of Sandra Gamble or Velmar Ermine.

Anyone that may have seen him or given him a ride is asked to call the RCMP immediately.
