“Baby Glen” evades capture in Little Red

Jan 2, 2025 | 12:43 PM

An active search is underway for ‘Baby Glen’ Halkett, who recently escaped from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert and was almost caught Wednesday by RCMP in the community of Little Red River, north of the city.

Halkett, 29, was spotted by patrolling officers in the community yesterday around 11 am, sitting in the driver’s side seat of a vehicle which was about to leave a residence.

Officers activated their emergency lights and approached the vehicle but rather than stopping, it accelerated and struck the side of the police vehicle.

While there was damage to the RCMP vehicle, the officers were not injured. They have since found the suspect vehicle but have not located Halkett.

The Correctional Service of Canada issued a bulletin on New Year’s Eve, after finding Halkett missing from the minimum security unit in the prison. He was not present for the 9:30 pm count.

He was serving a sentence of two years, nine months and three days for break and enter to a dwelling house, having property obtained by crime over $5,0000, motor vehicle theft, fleeing from police and danger operation of a motor vehicle along with failing to attend court and comply with conditions.

RCMP have now added more charges of fleeing from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while prohibited in addition to charges laid against for escaping lawful custody and being unlawfully at large.

Halkett is about 5’8” tall, weighs 168 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair, which has grown longer than his official photo. He has a tattoo on his neck and under his left eye.

When spotted by the officers, he was wearing a grey or light brown toque, a hoodie and a beige jacket.

Members of the public who see Halkett should not approach him but call police instead at 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
