Vehicle stolen from P.A. caught on Cumberland Hwy. after high-speed flight

What seems to be the start of a well-beaten path between Prince Albert and Highway 123 to Cumberland House had another incident on November 22.

Officers from the Smeaton RCMP detachment were watching for an SUV reported stolen in Prince Albert around 4 pm.

They got a tip that matched the description of the stolen vehicle and found it on Highway 55 between Smeaton and Nipawin.

The driver of the vehicle did not pull over for emergency lights as officers attempted to stop it and drove east at high speeds.

Members called on the Carrot River detachment, who tried a second stop but the vehicle continued and turned north on Highway 123, which goes to Cumberland House.

Officers boxed it in, and it rammed a police vehicle before coming to a stop. All four occupants of the SUV were arrested and no officers reported any injuries. The police vehicle was not significantly damaged either.

A search of the vehicle turned out a large amount of ammunition.

Arrested are 28-year-old Jamyn Crawford from Prince Albert, 25-year-old Bryce Bird from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, and 27-year-old Kayla Cook from Prince Albert.

Each are charged with having stolen property over $5,000 and a second charge of having stolen property valued at less than $5,000.

Crawford is also charged with fleeing from police, three counts of failing to comply to release orders, two counts of failing to comply with probation orders and having a weapon contrary to an order.

He was further arrested by P.A. Police for outstanding warrants.

Bird is also charged with two counts of possession of weapon contrary to an order.

Crawford and Bird appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on November 25, 2024 and Cook is scheduled to appear in court in Cumberland House on December 17.

The fourth person initially misrepresented herself to Cumberland House RCMP and was released with conditions for a future court date.

However, she was then identified as Samantha Bird, age 31, also of Prince Albert.

Samantha Bird now faces possession of stolen property charges as well, along with two counts of failling to comply with a release order.

Other charges include obstruction and personating another person with with intent to avoid arrest.

A warrant has been issued for her arrest. She is described as 5’8″ and weighing 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She also uses the last name Freeman.
