SGI logo being used in scam emails

Nov 22, 2024 | 3:03 PM

SGI is warning residents of Saskatchewan to be wary of emails using the SGI logo that are not authentic.

The emails do not follow a copy and pasted script necessarily, and have changing subject lines as well.

They do consistently ask for confirmation of residency and registration.

SGI said it does not contact people by email for that type of information.

People that are not sure if an email is legitimate can contact their local license issuer or the SGI Customer Service Centre at 1-844-855-2744.

Do not use the phone number or email address in the suspicious email.

“These emails can be very convincing, so please approach any email claiming to be from SGI with a skeptical eye and never click on a link until you are 100% confident it’s a legitimate email,” said the organization in a news release on Friday, Nov. 22.

People can report the email as spam to their email provider and then just delete the email.

People who did click on a fraudulent link or gave out personal information should contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and let SGI know.
