Prince Albert’s Howe traded to Calgary in blockbuster deal
Despite being injured at the start of the year, Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick and Prince Albert local Tanner Howe has been one of the bright spots for the Regina Pats this year. Howe has now been traded to the Calgary Hitmen in a major deal.
Howe, a 19-year-old who was the captain of the Pats to start the season, will head to Calgary in exchange for 2007 born defenceman Reese Hamilton, 2006 born forward Keets Fawcett, a second round pick in 2027, and a third round pick in 2025.
To start the season, Howe missed the first two games of the season at the Pittsburgh Penguins rookie camp after being drafted and signing his entry level contract during the summer. Howe then played two games before an injury sidelined him for nearly the entire month of October, making his return on Oct. 30 against the Prince Albert Raiders. Since then, Howe has played in a total of 10 games on the year, scoring 6G-1A-7P in that time.
As for the return to Regina, Reese Hamilton was originally selected fourth overall by Calgary in the 2022 bantam draft, and he’s managed 1G-2A-3P in 20 games so far this season from the blueline. His production is down from last year, where he posted 8G-23A-34P in 42 games in his first season in the WHL. The trade brings him just an hour away from his hometown of Whitewood.
