Prince Albert Grand Council congratulates new Prince Albert Mayor
Just days after Bill Powalinsky’s election victory as the new Mayor of Prince Albert, leadership of Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) are extending their congratulations.
According to a statement issued on Friday, the PAGC is fully endorsing Powalinsky’s campaign on addressing homelessness, crime reduction, and governance.
“We are impressed by Mayor Powalinsky’s clear vision for our city, particularly his commitment to tackling homelessness. His leadership is needed as we seek sustainable solutions to our community’s most pressing issues,” said Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte.
Hardlotte also noted a key priority for PAGC is supporting YWCA’s efforts to establish a permanent emergency shelter. The current Stepping Stone Shelter, a temporary 45-bed facility, has implemented a triage system to prioritize those in greatest need, underscoring the urgent demand for additional resources. Efforts to rezone a property on 18th Street West for a permanent shelter failed during a public hearing, but PAGC remains encouraged by the city’s commitment to collaboration on next steps.
