All 27 NDP members gain role as critic in shadow cabinet

After doubling its numbers in the provincial election, NDP Leader Carla Beck said she has a team of people who were eager to take on a role in her shadow cabinet.

“They don’t want to sit around and just take up a seat,” Beck said. “They want to work for the people of this province, to deliver better.

“Our job is to show the people of this province that this is indeed a government in waiting, and I can’t wait to see them take the floor in the legislature.”

All 27 NDP MLAs will hold a role in Beck’s shadow cabinet. Beck said NDP members — newly elected and returning candidates — are ready to bring forward solutions for Saskatchewan people.

“They’re new when it comes to being MLAs, but this is a team with a lot of experience,” she said. “A lot of experience in their communities and a team that’s really eager to to hit the ground running.”

The NDP added 15 new members to its caucus in the provincial election on Oct. 28, bringing the opposition to 27. The Saskatchewan Party won its fifth majority government with 34 seats.

On top of being the official opposition leader, Beck will also be shadow Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Intergovernmental and Executive Council.

Premier Scott Moe announced his cabinet at Government House on Nov. 7.
