Gun claim at Prince Albert high school unsubstantiated

Nov 5, 2024 | 9:22 AM

UPDATE:

Prince Albert Police confirmed they spoke to the teen outside of the school and even after using the police dog to search the area in and around Kinsmen Park, found no evidence of any weapons.

The teen was taken home to his parent and, as no crime was committed, no charges will be laid.

The Director of Education for the Sask. Rivers Public School Division is stating there is no confirmation of any weapon at Prince Albert Collegiate Institute on Monday.

The comment from Neil Finch is in response to a story being shared on social media that a youth brought a gun to school and allegedly was making threats to use it.

A letter sent home to parents and guardians, from Principal Dave Lokinger, confirmed first responders were called to the school to assist with what he described as an unexpected situation.

“Our staff responded quickly professionally, ensuring the safety and well being of all students and staff members,” he said.

On Tuesday, all classes resumed as normal.

“We will continue to prioritize the safety of everyone in our school community,” Lokinger said.

As the investigation is ongoing, Finch was unable to confirm the exact source of the “unexpected situation.”
