Election 2024

Final forum, early vote starts today; P.A. candidates will deliver campaigns tonight

The final public forum for candidates running for a seat at the council table in Prince Albert city hall will happen this evening at Carlton Comprehensive High School.

Like Wednesday’s mayoral forum, the event will start at 6:30 pm in the Cafetorium with the nearest parking available off of 28th Street.

The candidates will speak about their platforms and reasons for running for several minutes and then the format will change a little from what was seen at the mayoral forum.

Rather than remaining at a table to take questions via the moderator, candidates will instead be able to mingle with the public and take questions in a more relaxed way.

Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce CEO Patty Hughes said the different format has been tested by other Chambers and that it works really well.

“The last hour of the event is more of an open house where we can have some more engaged one on one conversations with those ward candidates,” said Hughes.

Voters can learn more about candidates on the city’s website and should also go the Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page for any changes or chances to watch the event being streamed online.

Running in Ward 1 are Daniel Brown and Larry Vandale. Brown has declined to participate in the forum. Neither are incumbents. The ward was formerly held by Charlene Miller for many years and she opted to not run again.

In Ward 2, Troy Parenteau and Meghan Mayer are both on the ballot. Incumbent Terra Lennox-Zepp also chose to not run again.

In Ward 4 are candidates Bryce Laewetz and Perry Trusty. Long time councillor Don Cody who represented the ward decided to retire from politics.

Ward 5 was represented by Dennis Ogrodnick for years but he opted to not run again. Stepping into the gap are Stephen Ring and Shaun Harris.

The final contested position is Ward 7 where incumbent Dawn Kilmer is being challenged by Dennis Nowolesky.

Acclaimed are Darren Solomon in Ward 8, Blake Edwards in Ward 6 and Tony Head in Ward 3.

While election day is on November 13, people can take advantage of early polls.

Voting can be done at the Alfred Jenkins Field House on Friday November 1 between 3 and 7 pm and on Saturday, November 2 starting at 9 and going until 3 pm.

A second early poll is happening next weekend, starting at 3 pm and going until 7 but as a drive thru vote at the Exhibition Grounds on 6th Avenue East on Friday, November 8.

That will repeat again the next day beginning at 9 and continuing until 3 pm.

Registering for mail-in ballots has closed. Special polling locations will be set up a various facilities but are only open to the residents and staff within those faclities.

Those include Victoria Hospital and most of the senior living or place meant to house disabled people.

The Handi-bus operated by The Community Service Centre will offer free rides for clients on election day.
