Six children seriously injured in bus crash

Oct 29, 2024 | 12:59 PM

Six of the 27 children in yesterday’s school bus crash have serious injuries, with one flown by STARS to hospital in Saskatoon.

All of the children were from Tisdale Middle and Secondary School and were between the ages of 14 and 17 years old. The bus driver also sustained serious injuries in the crash.

All told, 26 students were taken either by ambulance or by their parents for care in a hospital. Authorities also said that most of the students’ injuries were non life-threatening.

No additional details were shared.

The Northeast School Division issued a statement this morning confirming that it was their students and that they came from TMSS.

According to RCMP, the collision happened at the Township Road 424 and Range Road 2160, about 20 kilometres south of Tisdale.

Response came from Melfort, Tisdale and Naicam emergency services and the nearby Kinistin Saulteaux First Nation offered support as well.

Not many details have been shared as to the cause of the collision yesterday, but investigators say only the bus was involved.

“The investigation is in its preliminary stages and at this time, we do not have details to provide about the collision,” police said yesterday evening. “The bus is currently upright in the ditch.”

That portion of the road was blocked off but opened to traffic this morning. A traffic reconstructionist is investigating as well.
