Paper Excellence re-names itself following purchase of Domtar

Oct 24, 2024 | 3:56 PM

The name Paper Excellence is on its way to the burner as the company, which owns a mill near Meadow Lake and non-operational facility near Prince Albert, combines with Domtar and Resolute Forest Products.

The joint venture will operate as Domtar, the company said in a news release today.

“Today marks a new and important chapter in Domtar’s journey, representing the bright future ahead of us,” said John D. Williams, non-executive chairman of the Management Board of Domtar (and its sister organizations).

“As a fully integrated company, we are better positioned to deliver for our customers, strengthen relationships with our key stakeholders and drive innovation across our industry. As a result of the integration, we now have a company that boasts the best of our three legacy companies and is poised to pursue and achieve future growth and success. Our new brand is a reflection of our shared mission to lead with purpose and impact.”

The mill in Meadow Lake produces mechanical pulp, sold mainly in Asia for use in tissue and paper towels and food and cardboard packaging.

The Prince Albert pulp mill has never been opened while being owned by Paper Excellence and last month, company officials confirmed that they are trying to sell it.

As Domtar, the focus will still be on making pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products like the three companies created before. Now, they also plan to leverage their new capability to expand their products and services.

Previously produced products will be available under their previous names and information will still be available on their legacy platforms until the Domtar site is updated.

The company said its corporate offices in Canada and the U.S. will remain and its production footprint will remain the same.
