Raiders blown out in final game of B.C. road swing

The Prince Albert Raiders looked to finish their B.C. road swing on a high note Saturday when they got set to take on the Vancouver Giants. Instead, the Raiders were steamrolled in a 10-1 loss after giving up three goals in less than two minutes two separate times in the game.

In the first period, it took until the 4:32 mark for the Giants to find their way on to the scoreboard on the game’s first powerplay. With Dragicevic in the box for holding, Tysen Zimmer was set up for the one timer and scored.

Then at 5:06, the Raiders turned the puck over in their own slot and London Hoilett scored, and at 6:30 the Giants finished setting the tone for the night in a pretty passing play that saw Connor Levis score his first of the night.

Raiders captain Justice Christensen tried to ignite a spark for his team with a fight at the end of the period with Toretto Marelli in a spirited bout, but things were only set to get worse in the second.

After 1: Raiders 0 – 3 Giants, shots 18-8 Giants

The Raiders gave up their second powerplay goal of the game with Dragicevic in the box at 5:11 with Connor Levis scoring his second of the game to make it 4-0.

At the 8:15 mark the Raiders showed their only sign of life when Brayden Dube scored to extend his point streak to five games. Doigan Pederson stole the puck at the Raider blueline and sent it forward for Dube on a 3-on-2 rush, and Dube took the puck to the middle of the ice and wristed the puck home for his third of the season.

The Giants quickly killed any momentum the Raiders found when Mazden Leslie scored at 11:30 on their third straight successful powerplay. That lead to another goal moments later from Jakob Oreskovic at 12:18, ending Max Hildebrand’s night as he was pulled after giving up six goals on 23 shots.

The goaltender change wasn’t the spark the Raiders needed either as Cooper Anderson was put under fire immediately, and Caiden Cail would score his first of the season at 13:23.

After 2: Raiders 1 – 7 Giants, shots 9-8 Giants, 27-16 Giants overall

Just 49 seconds into the third and the Giants scored again off the stick of Jakob Oreskovic with his second of the night.

Shortly after, Oli Chenier left the game after being boarded by Kolby Gapter, giving the Raiders a full five minutes of powerplay.

At 5:29 Tyler Thorpe would score for the Giants shorthanded as the major penalty dwindled. Connor Levis would score the 10-spot goal at 9:30 while shorthanded on a separate penalty for the hat trick, and mercifully not a single hat would come over the glass.

FINAL: Raiders 1 – 10 Giants, shots 15-7 Raiders, 34-31 Giants overall

The Raiders go 1-4 on their swing through B.C. with their lone win coming over the Kamloops Blazers. They’ll return home for a Friday matchup against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
