Pumpkins and corn mazes: a proud family tradition

The sounds of screams and laughter will soon fill the grounds at the property occupied by Paintball Paradise south of Prince Albert.

Haunted Paradise, which includes a haunted church, corn maze and story walk, returns this weekend. Noting the event is celebrating its’ 11th anniversary, Owner George Lewko said it’s a lot of fun.

“This has now become a major part of our business,” he said “Thirty years ago if you had asked me I never would have guessed I would be running a haunted corn maze and a pumpkin patch and stuff like that.”

However, with respect to carving out a candidate to run an attraction such as this, none seems to be better than Lewko who has a background in agriculture: a major in horticulture and a double minor in crop science.

The event runs Friday nights from 7-11 p.m., and Saturdays from 2-11 p.m.

“Two to seven is family time and after 7 is when it gets scary,” Lewko said, referring to the dozens of actors who get hired to scare the brave visitors who attempt to find their way through the maze.

Last year’s attendance was about 4,000 but Lewko noted that was also spread out over three weekends.

While many of the familiar thrills have returned, visitors can also look forward to some new attractions such as a paintball shooting game and the addition of flush washrooms.
