Oct 17, 2024 | 12:03 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) is confirming they found human remains on Wednesday evening near a homeless encampment in the East Hill area.

In a release, police said they were called to the 400 Block of 19th Street East for a report of a deceased person where, upon arrival, officers located human remains. At this time, their identity is unknown.

PAPS’ Forensic Identification Section and Criminal Investigations Division continue to investigate alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner. Police have scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday, October 22nd where both a Forensic Anthropologist and Forensic Pathologist will help police in identifying the remains.

Since the discovery, police have been notifying families and loved ones of those who have recently been reported missing and not yet been found.

PAPS will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Police are asking anyone with information about the remains, or who may know the identity, to contact PAPS at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Nearby neighbours who spoke to paNOW confirmed the wooded area is often used by homeless people as a shelter and that there is a lot of foot traffic in the area. None of the neighbours heard anything suspicious at the time of the incident.
