A man who helped develop the Cornerstone area and is a co-Executive Director of the Downtown Business Improvement District, is setting his sights on City Hall.

Perry Trusty has announced his intentions to run in Ward 4.

Trusty is a retired Economic Development professional with a national designation in Economic Development and was the winner of the Saskatchewan Economic Developer of the Year.

In addition to his work at Cornerstone, he also helped develop Stonegate Melfort.

With respect to issues, Trusty said in a statement he wants to see continued growth in forestry, manufacturing and opportunities for linkages to the northern mining sector.

He and his wife owned and operated an Approved Mental Health Home for 15 years.

“This business experience provides him with knowledge about the challenges of the social issues in our city,” the statement said.

Trusty has also volunteered with numerous community organizations and been involved in local hockey, baseball, fastball and soccer either as a player, coach or parent.

Perry has family and friends in Ward 4 and lived and raised his family for a few years in the East Flat.

Outgoing Ward 4 Councillor Don Cody has endorsed Trusty.

“I worked with Perry when I was Mayor of Prince Albert and he was my Economic Development Coordinator. I respect Perry’s ability and perspective on issues that make Prince Albert a better place to live, work and play. I would highly recommend all the citizens to support Perry as the representative of Ward 4”.

So far there’s been only one other confirmed candidate for this Ward, that being Bryce Laewetz.

The nomination deadline is Wednesday at 4 p.m. however, candidates have another full day to withdraw if they decide. Election day is Wednesday, Nov. 13.
