Redhead Equipment makes $150,000 towards Victoria Hospital expansion

The Equip the Vic program raising money to fund the Victoria Hospital expansion in Prince Albert received a massive boost Tuesday morning when Redhead Equipment donated $150,000 towards the campaign. With the hospital planning to increase its capacity by 40 per cent by the time of the project’s completion, the donation will provide immense help to the healthcare scene in Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan.

CEO of the Boreal Healthcare Foundation Cody Barnett joined the Beach Radio morning show on Tuesday to talk about the donation.

“We’re here this morning really just to celebrate. Redhead Equipment and their $150,000 donation in support of our pediatric unit and support the expansion of that pediatric unit in the new tower. So we’re really grateful to Redhead for their support and really excited to share that news today.”

The donation comes two weeks after Cameco supplied the founding donation of $1.5 million towards the Boreal Healthcare Foundation, serving as the first large donation to come in. With the donation going towards the pediatric unit in the new expansion, Barnett said that the donation from Redhead Equipment aligned between the two organizations.

“They are very family focused. They know that a lot of their customers are farm families, forestry families, mining families, and trucking organizations and families as well. So they are really proud to be a part of this and to be supporting families in central and northern Saskatchewan this way.”

The donation from Redhead Equipment is going towards the Pediatrics Procedure and Resuscitation Room, and as a result the room will be named after them. With almost 80 per cent of the patients in pediatric care being under the age of two, a second pediatric unit will help doctors in Prince Albert provide the best care they possibly can.

“It’s a lot of highly critical, highly skilled level care for some of the smallest patients that our hospital sees and our pediatricians and the staff on that unit are incredible and I’m just excited that they’re going to have the space they deserve to work in too, as this expansion goes forward.”

With the donations from Redhead Equipment and Cameco both coming in last the month, the Equip the Vic campaign is off to a great start towards its $40 million goal. While the updated hospital will be located here in Prince Albert, it will reduce the amount of patients leaving the city for their care while also providing more amenities to people in northern Saskatchewan, which could affect well over the 150,000 people who rely on the Victoria Hospital all year.

“This is a generational campaign, really. This is our one shot to bring the care we deserve right here to Prince Albert close to home for us. We’re building this new tower. It’s a $898 million construction project, but the donations are going to the critical pieces that make sure that our physicians and nurses have the equipment they need to provide that care.”

The donation from Redhead Equipment more specifically will go towards essential hospital enhancements including furniture, fixtures, and vital medical equipment.

“Redhead Equipment is happy to show support to Saskatchewan families and give back to our community,” said a spokesperson for Redhead Equipment in a statement. “Supporting this campaign ensures that those who have worked so hard to support our province will have access to high-quality medical care, right here at home.”
