Flu, COVID immunization clinics start Oct. 15 in Saskatchewan

Immunization clinics for this year’s influenza and COVID-19 vaccines begin in one week in Saskatchewan.

The clinics will be up and running on October 15 at multiple locations around the province, offering free vaccines to residents of Saskatchewan six months and older. Appointments can now be booked through the Saskatchewan Health Authority, either online or by phone. A number of local pharmacies and medical offices will also offer immunizations.

“Getting immunized is crucial in the fight against respiratory illness and will work to keep not only you but also your loved ones healthy,” Dr. Tania Diener, medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, said in a statement.

“We encourage everyone to receive their vaccines as soon as possible.”

The health authority said it’s safe to be immunized against both the flu and COVID during the same visit.

“Getting your influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations is the best way to limit transmission rates this fall and winter,” the health authority noted.

The highest risk groups for respiratory illnesses are seniors, children under five, those with chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems, and pregnant women.

“High-risk groups and their caregivers are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” the health authority said. “High-dose influenza vaccine is available for all Saskatchewan residents 65 years of age and older.”
