A Prince Albert hockey player is coming back to the prairies following a stint in B.C.

Ashton Tait is on his way to the SJHL’s Nipawin Hawks after he was reassigned by the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers on Thursday morning.

Tait, 18, has spent parts of the last two seasons in Kamloops, scoring three goals and seven assists across 83 games. Additionally, he suited up twice for the Blazers to begin this season while also playing in one game in 2021-22.

Prior to his time in the WHL, the 5’10”, 174 pound forward donned the Green and Gold of the Mintos netting 41 goals and 34 assists in 65 games over two seasons.

To begin the new hockey season, the Blazers sit fourth in the WHL’s West Division at 1-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL), while the Hawks are at the bottom of the SJHL’s Sherwood Division at 0-4-0-0.

Tait joins a youthful Nipawin group where three of their top five scorers to start the year are rookies, those being Jack Janzen, Will Whitter (both have 1g, 2a), and Spencer Chestolowski (1g, 1a).

The Hawks are set to kick off a three-in-three road trip in Southern Saskatchewan on Thursday, beginning against the Hounds in Notre Dame, followed by stops in Estevan to face the Bruins on Friday, and a date with the Red Wings in Weyburn on Friday.

Thursday’s contest is set for 7:30 p.m. at Duncan McNeill Arena.
