Corrections officer running again in Ward 1

A corrections officer who has run for election in Prince Albert’s Ward 1 has once again put his name forward.

Daniel Brown said his first order of business is to thank outgoing councillor Charlene Miller for her time at the council table over the last 16 years.

Miller is not running again.

As he has before, Brown said one thing he would do as a councillor is have spring and fall meetings with residents to get ideas to move the community forward.

He also would like to revive Neighbourhood Watch and Block Parent programs.

Another idea is to have a year round community garbage container as well as focus on snow removal from sidewalks.

Brown is advocating for community gardens and mini playgrounds to make use of city-owned properties. He added the few remaining unpaved streets should be upgraded.

In dealing with homelessness, crime and addictions, Brown said the city needs to work with local organizations including the PAGC, and MN-S.

Brown is a long time resident of the city and is married with children. He is currently working at the Sask. Pen but plans to retire in May after 25 years on the job.

“In doing so I will be able to dedicate more time to work for the residence of Ward 1. Our family has long standing roots in the community. Starting with my Grandpa George and continuing to my parents Merv and AnnaLou,” Brown said.

The Brown family has spent countless hours at the former Parkland Community Hall and is always seen helping at the school and community events, a tradition he said he is proud to continue.

No other candidates have officially stepped forward to run in Ward 1 as of publication.
