Carlton, St. Mary hit the road for Week 4 in NSFL

Oct 3, 2024 | 3:00 PM

The regular season continues Friday in the North Sask. Football League (NSFL) this week as teams prepare for their Week 4 matchups.

Both Carlton and St. Mary are on the road for this week’s contests as playoffs loom on the horizon.

For Carlton, they are headed west as they look to remain undefeated against the winless Lloydminster Barons. The Crusaders, entering the week at 3-0, are hoping to close out the four-game regular season with a win as a victory will secure a second-straight undefeated campaign.

Carlton tallied their 100th point scored last week during a 48-0 win over St. Mary in the 12th annual Car Guys Classic. Previously this season, the Cru defeated North Battleford 28-23 in Week 1 and Martensville 24-0 in Week 2.

Lloydminster enters at 0-2 on the year, as they look to avoid their second consecutive last place finish. So far this season, the Barons have fallen to Martensville (32-21 in Week 1) and North Battleford (21-7 in Week 3). Lloydminster had an exhibition match in Week 2 against Saskatoon’s Bethlehem Stars however, they also dropped that contest, 15-7.

For St. Mary, they are trekking south to Martensville in search of their first win of the season. The Marauders are 0-2 entering Week 4 following the Car Guys Classic last week, and their 35-7 loss in Week 2 to North Battleford. Additionally, St. Mary has played in two exhibition games this season, each also resulting in a loss.

Despite the end of the season quickly approaching, hope is not lost as St. Mary could pull off some surprises like last year when they went from last place to finals bound in just two games. Regardless, a win against a hot Martensville team could signal great things for the team in the coming weeks.

Sitting at 1-1, Martensville enters Friday with an exhibition win in their previous contest, decimating Saskatoon’s Evan Hardy Souls, 50-6. In league play, the Royals lone win came in Week 1 against Lloydminster with their one loss was to Carlton in Week 2.

Kickoff for St. Mary versus Martensville is at 4:00 p.m., while Carlton and Lloydminster get underway from the Border City at 6:30 p.m.
