Shooting incident outside Ahtahkakoop results in over a dozen charges

Over a dozen gun-related charges have been laid in connection to an incident Wednesday evening outside Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.

Prentice Bowman, 42, is scheduled to appear at Prince Albert Provincial Court on Friday.

At the time of the incident it was reported that a driver was travelling on the north boundary of Ahtahkakoop when they came across a black Chevrolet Equinox parked on the side of the road, looking in need of assistance.

The individual pulled over and approached the Equinox.

The driver of the Equinox then pointed a firearm at the individual and reportedly discharged it in their direction multiple times. No injuries were reported to police.

Bowman’s charges include unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and careless use of a firearm.

He had initially been arrested on an outstanding warrant from Ahtahkakoop RCMP for multiple firearms related charges.

Last April, Bowman was in the vicinity of a separate shooting incident at Ahtahkakoop.

While wanted on multiple warrants, he was found walking in the community with another man, Sheldon Badger.

When officers attempted to arrest Bowman, Badger pulled out a gun and fired a shot at police, who then returned fire. Neither Badger nor the officer were injured.

Bowman was arrested at the scene and was not charged in connection to the shooting incident.

Earlier this month, Badger received a nine year sentence for multiple gun related charges.
