Raiders sign overage defenceman Cedricson Okitundu from OHL’s Bulldogs

The Prince Albert Raiders added some depth to their blueline on Friday ahead of their WHL season and home opener against the Regina Pats.

The Raiders signed 20-year-old defenceman Cedricson Okitundu from the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Brantford Bulldogs after he cleared waivers and was let go from the team.

The Ottawa product is a three-year veteran of the OHL, having 141 career games under his belt with 24 points (12g, 12a) to his name to go along with 119 penalty minutes. Last season with the Bulldogs, he managed five goals and three assists with 50 penalty minutes.

“Cedricson is a stay at home, veteran defenceman,” Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt said in a release. “We feel that with players away at camp and uncertainty in the overage position, that to support our group, Cedricson would be a good fit. He brings in experience to an otherwise very young defensive core. We are very excited to welcome him.”

The 6’0”, 200lbs blueliner will be in the lineup for Friday’s season opener with the Raiders being the fourth CHL team he has suited up for, having also played for the Owen Sound Attack and Guelph Storm.

The signing comes just in the nick of time for P.A. as the club will be without some key players to kick off their season with Tomas Mrsic, Norwin Panocha, and Lukas Dragicevic attending NHL camps. Krzysztof Macias is at AHL camp with the Charlotte Checkers.

Puck drop for the Raiders home opener against Regina is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.

There is a pre-game BBQ at 5 p.m. in the parking lot. Also, part of the proceeds from tonight’s 50/50 draw will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities in honour of Trevor LaPlante – a long time Raider fan who tragically passed away.
