P.A. Chamber gets ready for two fall elections

Sep 19, 2024 | 10:57 AM

With both provincial and municipal elections fast approaching, the Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce is already planning forums for local candidates.

“We are excited to hold these forums,” said Patty Hughes, CEO of the Chamber.

“It is vital that voters have as many opportunities as possible to learn about the candidates running in the elections prior to making their choices. These forums will help provide that information to constituents in the community of Prince Albert.”

Voters can attend in person at Carlton Comprehensive High School Cafetorium or watch via social media live stream.

Each forum will have three segments. Candidates will introduce themselves and their platform, respond to prepared questions and be able to deliver closing remarks.

“The Chamber will be hosting a hybrid model of in person and virtual attendance. I expect that this hybrid format may allow even more people to become more interested and involved in the democratic process,” said Hughes.

The Chamber will supply moderators and funnel questions from the public who can submit them in advance by emailing the Chamber at info@princealbertchamber.com.

Individual questions submitted via social media during the livestream will be made available to the candidates who may reply as they wish following the forum.

The date for the provincial candidates’ forum has been set for Thursday, Oct 9, 2024 beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the Carlton Comprehensive High School cafetorium.

The municipal election forums are planned for Prince Albert mayoral candidates on Wednesday, Oct.30. A forum for city ward candidates follows on Friday, Nov. 1 and they will also be held at the Carlton cafeteria.

All declared candidates are invited to participate. In the event of a full acclamation, that forum would be cancelled.
