Sep 13, 2024 | 12:09 PM

A situation is unfolding in Big Island Lake Cree Nation, just north of Pierceland, SK.

Just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, Pierceland RCMP received a report that someone had been seriously injured at a home on Big Island Lake Cree Territory. When they arrived, officers found a deceased woman. Her identity has not been released.

Since the death is considered suspicious in nature, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has taken over the investigation.

Resident Geoffrey Sandfly told meadowlakeNOW there appeared to be forced entry to the front door of the house where the woman’s body was found. He said residents are being asked to stay indoors and only leave for medical emergencies.

RCMP said they were unable to provide any other details, but residents would be notified if they identified an imminent risk to public safety.

Anyone with information should contact Saskatchewan RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
