Opposition party in Tunisia says dozens of its members have been arrested
TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — Dozens of members of Tunisia’s largest opposition party were arrested this week, one day before campaign season kicks off ahead of the country’s presidential election, party officials said Friday.
The Islamist Party Ennahda said that tallies collected by its local branches suggested at least 80 men and women from the party had been apprehended as part of an countywide sweep. It called the arrests unprecedented.
The sweep is the latest action to mar Tunisia’s campaign season leading up to its presidential election next month.
