Sep 6, 2024 | 2:00 PM

With a little under two months to go until the provincial election, the race in the Prince Albert Carlton constituency is heating up.

The Sask United Party has announced Denneil Carpenter as their candidate who will challenge for the seat currently held by the Sask Party.

Born and raised in Prince Albert, Carpenter was very involved with 4-H and was also a part of the Prince Albert and Melfort Board of Directors for the Exhibitions. When asked by paNOW why he wanted to run. he said he was concerned about the future.

“I’ve got three young kids and I think Saskatchewan needs a change,” he said.

After years of working in construction, Carpenter started his own small business converting an old school bus into a Food truck (Buzfood), and has been serving the public at local events and throughout the city. Carpenter was also asked why he would be a good person to represent PA Carlton.

“I’m kinda down to earth and I deal with the public all the time so I hear a lot of grass roots issues and I think that’s exactly what this province needs, people that are grass roots and able to get into office and help out normal people,” he said.

If elected, the Saskatchewan United Party plans to introduce major tax cuts, including cutting the PST in half on all purchases and eliminating the fuel tax.

Carpenter also noted he is passionate about supporting teachers and nurses.

Running for the Sask Party is Kevin Kasun and the NDP candidate is Carolyn Brost Strom.

The official election date has not yet been set but the writ is expected to be dropped by Oct. 2.
