The parking lot at the Valley Hill Youth Treatment Centre in Prince Albert is empty and a letter posted on the front door confirms operations have been temporarily suspended.

The letter was typed by Meyers Norris Penny Ltd. and as well as indicating they have been appointed administrator, indicates the measure took effect on Aug. 30, 2024.

paNOW reached out to the Ministry of Health and received an emailed statement.

“Due to operational concerns, MNP has been appointed as the administrator of Valley Hill Youth Treatment Centre to stabilize the organization, and admissions have been paused while we work toward the ultimate goal of rebuilding this important service,” they said.

The Ministry of Health also noted a commitment to continue working in partnership with Prince Albert Grand Council throughout this process.

“And into the future as we rebuild this important service,” the Ministry said.

Existing patients have been discharged with support from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and connected with other services and supports. Staff have not been laid off.

According to the organization’s website, they offer a six week, 15 single occupancy bed co-ed residential treatment program, for youth ages 12 – 17.

The facility is equipped with a smudge/prayer room, a classroom which is for youth to participate in school assignments that are brought in upon arrival or sent in.

The staff consists of a Clinical Supervisor, Community Liaison Worker, Teacher, Cultural/Recreation Support, Addiction Counselors, Youth Care Workers, and Night Support workers.
