The first signing out of camp is done for the Prince Albert Raiders, signing 2009 born forward Kyle Obobaifo to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

“We were thrilled to be able to draft him where we did,” said Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt in a statement issued earlier today. “At camp, we saw his ability to play a power forward type of game. He’s a guy that doesn’t back down from any kind of challenge, but at the same time he showed incredibly soft hands and the ability to score through all of camp and the green vs white game. We’re thrilled to have a player like that. We have lots of skill, but to add his size and demeanor to our game is exciting. He’s a complete player and I think he’s got a tremendous future.”

Born in Calgary, Obobaifo (pronounced Oh-boh-buy-foh) spent last season with the Burnaby Winter Club U15 team where he played 27 games, earning 20G-16A-38P in that time. He was also called up for six games to Burnaby’s U17 squad where he put up a point per game.

The Raiders selected Obobaifo 54th overall during the third round of the WHL Bantam Draft in May. As a 15-year-old this season, he won’t be eligible to play for the Raiders this year. During this year’s annual Green vs White game to end camp, Obobaifo was credited with two assists.

Obobaifo has two older brothers that also play hockey. The eldest, Charles, played for the Kindersley Klippers in the SJHL and played his last two seasons of NCAA Division III hockey at Norwich University in Vermont, while the middle brother Aaron is going into his second season with the Vancouver Giants in the WHL.
