Bourgault Tillage Tools purchases Iowa parts company

Aug 27, 2024 | 1:52 PM

St. Brieux, Sask. based Bourgault Tillage Tools (BTT) has purchased Herschel Parts from Alamo Group.

Mark Collins, the marketing manager of Herschel Parts, said the company has been a manufacturer and distributor of agricultural parts in Indianola, Iowa for over 137 years.

“Over the years we have been the first in the market with many innovative ideas,” he said. “Alamo decided it would close the Herschel business down and concentrate on other endeavors and just out of the blue we got a phone call from BTT. We could tell from the beginning it would be a good fit and they felt the same way.”

Herschel Parts will be directed by Ryan Olson, who has recently been announced as the new company’s president. Olson comes from a fifth-generation farm and is the vice president and general manager of BTT.

Bourgault Tillage Tools President and CEO Joseph Bourgault said the company originated in the mid 1980s as a division of F.P. Bourgault Industries, cultivator division,” Bourgault said. “Then in 1991 we incorporated as an independent company separate from Bourgault Industries. We manufacture all sorts of tillage and seeding tools in Canada, the United States and around the world.”

He said the acquisition of Herschel Parts was made with an eye to the future.

“We want our children and grandchildren to have opportunity and to continue to grow and expand themselves and to continue to grow and expand our community of St. Brieux, a great community, and we understand we’re going to be part of a great community in Indianola as well,” he said.

As part of the sale, Bourgault Tillage Tools has on-boarded all the employees at Herschel Parts.

The formal announcement of the acquisition was timed ahead of the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa where Bourgault Tillage Tools and Herschel Parts will be displayed together for the first time.

The deal was announced yesterday, but no purchase price was disclosed.
