Curtis Ledoux, who was convicted of being an accessory to murder in the death of Wesley Custer, is now facing new charges in connection with a shooting incident that locked down the community of Little Red River several days ago.

On Tuesday, Prince Albert RCMP were told of a vehicle driving at high speeds on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation just after 10 a.m.

After officers found the vehicle, they tried to stop it but the driver refused and fled. Later, police found the suspect vehicle again and tried to stop it, but the driver fled a second time. However, they ran into mechanical issues and were forced to stop. The vehicle had been stolen out of Weirdale on Saturday.

One of the people inside the vehicle discharged a gun, shattering a window and the two occupants then ran on foot.

Officers later located an illegally modified gun inside the vehicle.

The Critical Incident Response Team, police dog, Prince Albert Crime Reduction team and the Warrant Enforcment team all arrived on scene and deployed a drone to search for the suspects in the rural area.

One of the occupants was located hiding in a bush and was arrested.

As a result of continued investigation, 44-year-old Ledoux from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation is charged with a list of crimes, including:

– one count, possession of property obtained by crime, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;

– one count, resist arrest, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;

– one count, flight from police, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;

– one count, reckless discharge with intent to prevent arrest, Section 244, Criminal Code;

– one count, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code;

– one count, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and

– one count, possession of a firearm and ammunition in a vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on August 22, 2024

Officers did not locate the second occupant and continue working to locate him. The suspect is described as a male with short black hair, approximately 5’8” and 140 lbs.

Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to contact Prince Albert RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
