Trojans, Mintos, Stars to play multiple exhibition games in mid-September

Aug 21, 2024 | 3:43 PM

The 2024/25 Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League season is now less than a month away, as exhibition games will begin on Sept. 10.

Most teams will play just two or three pre-season games, including the Tisdale Trojans, Prince Albert Mintos and Battlefords Stars.

The Trojans will be the first team to begin their exhibition play, as they’re set to host the Yorkton Maulers on Sept. 13.

Tisdale will play an additional two pre-season games, once again facing the Maulers, this time in Yorkton, on Sept. 15. The Trojans will then wrap up their exhibition schedule, back at the Recplex in Tisdale, when they host the P.A. Mintos on Sept. 20.

As for Prince Albert, they will play three contests with their additional two coming against the Warman Wildcats. First, they will play their one-and-only home game on Sept. 18, when they play host to Warman at the Art Hauser Centre. The Mintos will return to face the Wildcats in Warman on Sept. 22, concluding their pre-season schedule.

And finally, the Battlefords Stars will play just two exhibition games in total.

They will kick off their pre-season schedule in Swift Current, as they take on the Legionnaires on Sept. 17. The Stars will then play host to the Lloydminster Lancers who are a part of the U18 AAA Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL). That match will take place in Battlefords on Sept. 22.

The 2024/25 SMAAAHL regular season will begin on Saturday, Sept. 28, with a total of five games between 10 of the 12 teams.

Tisdale will be in Estevan to face the Great North Bears twice on opening weekend, while Prince Albert will do the same in Yorkton against the Maulers.

Only the Battlefords Stars and Warman Wildcats won’t play on opening night, as their first contests aren’t scheduled until Oct. 2, when they do battle with each other.

Eight of the 12 teams will acquire a playoff spot at the end of the year, with the Trojans and Mintos trying to replicate their postseason appearances.

Meanwhile, for the Stars, they will be trying to get back to the playoffs following their shortcomings this past campaign.

The Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League regular season is 44 games long.
