Aug 20, 2024 | 6:56 AM

A 26-year old man from Yellow Quill First Nation has been charged with second degree murder.

Cole Smokeyday was arrested following an investigation into the death of 24-year old Terrance Tony Kishayinew, also from Yellow Quill, which is located about 20 kilometres northwest of Kelvington, SK.

Rose Valley RCMP responded to a report of an injured person on Aug. 18 around 5 p.m. at a residence on the First Nation. Kishayinew was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene.

Police determined Smokeyday had assaulted a second individual who did not report injuries to police. He also faces charges of assault and uttering threats and is expected to appear in Melfort provincial court Tuesday.
