Aug 12, 2024 | 3:39 PM

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League pre-season is now less than a month away.

On Monday the SJHL released its pre-season schedule, which is set to begin on Sept. 2.

It will be an all-northern matchup to begin the year, as the Flin Flon Bombers will visit the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Exhibition games will continue until Sept. 14, as the Ice Wolves and Nipawin Hawks, the Weyburn Red Wings and Estevan Bruins, and the Humboldt Broncos and Melfort Mustangs conclude the preliminary contests.

This SJHL pre-season will feature some out-of-province and even out-of-country games, as the SJHL works with its partners in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), along with the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

The Battlefords North Stars will play two games against the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the AJHL, once in Saskatchewan and once in Alberta. Battlefords will also face the Lloydminster Bobcats on a separate occasion.

Meanwhile, the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers will clash with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the MJHL, along with the Flin Flon Bombers battling against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard, also of the MJHL.

As for the Estevan Bruins, they will host the MJHL’s Virden Oil Capitals, while also travelling down to Aberdeen, South Dakota to take on the Wings of the NAHL.

The Melfort Mustangs will play twice against both the Nipawin Hawks and Humboldt Broncos (home and away), after hosting the Flin Flon Bombers to begin their pre-season schedule.

Nipawin will also play twice against La Ronge, while Humboldt will do the same against the Kindersley Klippers.

The North Stars will duel both the Ice Wolves and the Klippers for a pair of games each.

La Ronge will then also travel to play in Flin Flon against the Bombers.

The full exhibition schedule with dates and times can be found on the SJHL website. Opening night of the regular season is still slated for Sept. 20.
