Multiple medals for Prince Albert softball teams

Two Saskatchewan based teams competed in the U17 Fastpitch Canadian Championships over the weekend. The U17 Prince Albert Astros represented the as team SK1, while the Treaty 4 team with players from Ochapowace and Okanese First Nations represented as team SK2.

For the Astros, their tournament started against the Napanee Express where they lost 5-1. From there, the Astros won three of their next five games before their final round robin game against the Treaty 4 team. The Astros put up a 22-6 win over the Treaty 4 team, setting up a rematch later that day in which the Astros won 9-2.

The Astros won one more game 9-2 over the Chatsworth Longhorns out of Ontario to get into medal contention. In their final game, the Astros met the Napanee Express for the second time of the tournament, taking a 7-0 loss to end the tournament with a bronze medal.

On the girls side of things, the U17 Lakeland Blaze won the bronze medal at the Western Canadian Championships in Port Alberni, B.C. The Blaze reached the semi finals with a big 13-6 win in the quarterfinal.

The U19 Blaze lost a hard fought battle to the BC Wildcats 6-2 at their Western Canadian Championships in Irma, Alberta. The team ended up winning the bronze medal secured their thrid place finish with a 14-3 win over the hosting Irma Tigers.
