Northlands College and Cape Breton University (CBU) have signed an agreement to deliver the Master of Business Administration in Community Economic Development (MBA in CED) program at La Ronge’s Northlands College.

That’s according to a media release issued Wednesday, which states the program aims to offer a high-quality graduate degree opportunity for leaders and administrators across Northern Saskatchewan. The MBA in CED will commence its first cohort at Northlands in January 2025.

Its curriculum includes the fundamental business subjects found in traditional MBA programs, with a special focus on applying business and management concepts through the lens of community economic development. The program will be delivered in a weekend format designed to accommodate working professionals.

“We are pleased to partner with CBU to bring this MBA program to Northern Saskatchewan,” said Northlands President and CEO Karsten Henriksen.

“This collaboration aligns with our mission to provide accessible, high-quality education that meets the needs of our communities. The MBA in CED will empower local and regional leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to drive economic and social development across Northern Saskatchewan.”

The collaboration between Northlands and CBU represents the college’s commitment to work with diverse partners to achieve the aspirational and educational goals of Northern Saskatchewan, building regional leaders, and contributing to the region’s economic and community development.

David C. Dingwall, CBU President and Vice-Chancellor, explained the MBA program is uniquely focused on community economic development.

“As the only MBA in Canada with community economic development at its core, it’s a program for people who want to make a true difference where they live and work,” Dingwall said.

“We are proud to partner with Northlands College, an institution that shares our passion for empowering learners and fostering innovation, to bring our MBA to Northern Saskatchewan.”
