Predators repeat as PGLL Champions, cap off undefeated season

Jul 27, 2024 | 10:14 PM

The Prince Albert Predators etched themselves into the history books on Saturday night.

The Jr. Lacrosse Club managed to capture their second consecutive Prairie Gold Lacrosse League (PGLL) Championship with a dominant 16-5 Game 2 win over the Swift Current Wolverines at Kinsmen Arena. P.A. previously won Game 1 last weekend in Swift Current, 10-7.

The back-to-back titles was the cherry on top of what was a flawless season. After going 12-0 in the regular season, the Predators managed three more wins in the playoffs to cap off the year at a perfect 15-0. Prince Albert becomes the third team in PGLL history to go an entire season without surrendering a loss, joining the 2003 and 2004 Moose Jaw Mustangs.

It was all Blue and Gold right from the word go, outscoring Swift Current 6-2 in the first period while scoring the first two goals of the game just 16 seconds apart. That was followed by outscoring the Wolverines 4-1 in the second and 6-2 again in the third.

Brayden Rieger led the charge for P.A., netting a goal while tacking on seven assists. Matthew Cudmore was second in scoring with a hat-trick and a pair of helpers, while third was rookie Ryley Prediger with three goals and an assist. Between the pipes was Mason Hawkes, who stopped 26 shots en route to the win.

For the Wolverines, Isaac Froese led the scoresheet with a goal and an assist while Shane Cornelson, Ryder Turko, Paul Piche, and Liam Rayner each had a goal. Cameron Greenley and Tyler McIsaac spilt duties in net, combining for 41 saves. The loss marks Swift Current’s second consecutive PGLL Finals loss.
