While some might say it was a stroke of luck, Prince Albert’s Les Diakiw is $25,000 richer after successfully scoring a hole-in-one.

The miraculous feat occurred on July 5, during the Mont. St. Joseph Foundation’s third annual charity golf classic at Kachur’s.There were four opportunities to win $25,000 and the 11th hole was sponsored by Pattison Media.

“I missed the green kind of,” Diakiw recalled. “The ball started rolling and it didn’t stop until it hit the flag.”

To win the prize, the feat had to witnessed by three people and there were two people down by the flag and one up on top of the hill. Instantly they took out their cameras and snapped Diakiw’s picture, who was still in shock.

“But after that, yeah, there was people behind me, and they’re all high fiving and everything else. So it was kind of cool,” he said.

The one day tournament represented Diakiw’s first round of the year and the par 3 was the third hole he played. With respect to how he plans to spend his winnings, Diakiw joked he is getting close to retirement and so will need all the help he can get.

Since the tournament started, Prince Albert Beverages – Coca-Cola has been a sponsor and Diakiw commented it was great to be a part of the event.

“Whenever you can give back to something like this, it’s great,” he said.

Jessica Gale, is the foundation’s Director of Development, and she confirmed this was their first ever hole in one. She also explained whether they’ve had rainy weather or good weather, they’ve always been able to raise over $50,000.

“There is tremendous support from the community. We are so blessed with all the support that we have,” she said.

“This year was by far phenomenal and we’ve had so much fun out on the golf course and it’s the folks that come out to golf with us and the sponsors that come out to spend the day with us, that really makes the event just tremendous.”
