Making her second trip to world’s in less than 10 years, Prince Albert’s Caitlyn Sachkowski did not miss the mark.

The fourth degree black belt won bronze in both Kata and Kumite. There were 10 women competing in her category.

“I did the best I could and I got third place. The goal is always gold,” she told paNOW on Monday, while sitting at an airport and making her way back to Canada.

The tournament was held over the weekend in Georgetown, Guyana, South America, and Sachkowski was competing in the 20-39 female age division. Commenting on the experience there, in comparison to other tournaments she’s attended, she said the temperature was something to get used to.

“They are not used to air conditioning there and it is higher stakes as it is worldwide, with over 300 participants,” she said.

Her first crack at World’s was in Barbados in 2018 and she was eliminated in the first round of Kumite so her performance this past weekend was a big improvement and she admitted she has been working a lot on her cardio.

In Prince Albert, she trains under Sensei Chris Lair, at Prince Albert Budokai Karate, and has been involved since 2010. Despite all her years of experience, she confessed she is always learning something new from every Karate person she meets.

“In the ring there is only you but outside the ring everyone is friends,” she said.
