Semi takes out traffic lights on Central Avenue

Traffic is being detoured at the intersection of Central Avenue and 28th Street after a semi-truck pulling a flat deck trailer struck the light standard.

The lights were on the ground when paNOW attended the scene but the semi was already moved.

City of Prince Albert traffic manager Evan Hastings said the truck was turning north from Central onto 28th Street when it struck the lights.

Neither of those streets are on the truck route, but crews are working on upgrades along Central Ave, which involves heavy trucks.

Crews are on site making the needed repairs to allow traffic back through the intersection.

It’s not the first time in recent history a semi has had difficult navigating a turn in the city.

On July 12, another semi turning off 15th Street West near Queen Mary School also struck a traffic light standard, but in that case, the lights remained up.

No repairs were needed and that truck was most likely taking the most direct route to the Victoria Hospital construction site.

15th Street is part of the truck route.
