Prince Albert police say a man who went into medical distress two days after being arrested, and passed away four days later in hospital, is now the subject of a suspicious death investigation.

Both the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Office and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating, and an external policing partner has been engaged to ensure impartiality.

According to information provided on Tuesday, the 49-year-old was initially arrested on July 3, for outstanding Criminal Code warrants.

He then appeared at Provincial Court on July 4, where he was remanded into custody at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre. The following day, he went into medical distress and was transported to Victoria Hospital.
