The sights and smells of community support, arrived in Prince Albert on Monday in the form of barbecued burgers and live music.

Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse and Grill fifth annual barbecue, in support of the local YWCA, was a big success and attracted a large crowd. Restaurant General Manager Davinder Singh explained why they like and chose this cause.

“A lot of charities only focus on one thing, but the YWCA focuses on a lot, both programming and services,” he said.

Singh also acknowledged the importance of not just running a business in the community, but also getting involved to help the community.

“And this is our way of giving back to the community and just raising whatever funds we can to help,” he said.

Prince Albert YWCA CEO Donna Brooks was on hand to enjoy the food, and along with her band, entertained the crowd. She said she appreciates the fact the event helps raise important funds, but also creates awareness.

“You see how many people are here. It gets our name out there, it gets people interested in what the YWCA does,” she explained.

Brooks also explained the money raised will help support programs that are not covered through government contracts.

“It goes back directly to the clients,” she said.

The event was scheduled to run from 11a.m. to 4p.m.
